I don't consider myself OCD but mention the word "Glitter" and it sends a shudder up my spine. It immediately conjours thoughts of sparkles for days - in the floor boards, my hair, on the pets... so when Melissa & Doug launched their range of Mess Free Glitter kits I'll admit I was very skeptical.

But I can say I was quite surprised! These kits are incredibly easy to use, the stickers are made of double sided tape, once the sticker is applied in its spot and the backing paper removed you are left with a sticky surface. You then take the glitter sheet of your choice, turn it upside down and place it onto the sticky surface, rub the back of the glitter sheet and lift. You control where the glitter sticks by only removing the backing paper for the colour you are applying at that time creating the crisp clean lines of colours you see in the pictures. No mess, none AT ALL!

The best thing is it's easy to do and gave the kids a good 30 minutes of creative time before they even raised their heads. An hour later (yes, they were still engaged & creating - cue mum grabs a coffee and actually drinks it hot!) various scenes had been completed. There are options to suit all interests including Adventure scenes for boys. Certainly an ideal wet weather activity or something to have up your sleeve for some quality independent craft activity time. I might even pack some in the suitcase for our next trip away as these kits are so easy to do anywhere. A

You'll find our full range of Melissa & Doug at 20% off for a limited time. These kits are a steal at under $10 a pack!!

We found a box of toys stored in the garage. Not just any box, it was from my childhood.  My dad had kept it years for me, amazing really considering the the family home was long gone and he had moved and down sized several times since then. Even though I can be quite ruthless with a clean out these days, here was a box, meticulously stored away containing all sorts of treasures (or junk if you ask my husband) which he had half in the bin before my boys started retrieving the goodies for explanation.

During school holidays, unless you have planned a trip or any other activity, most of the time, kids will just be at home. With this, they may end up being bored and looking for something meaningful that they can do. You can give them educational toys to play with, but their energy will soon be exhausted from playing. With this, one of the things that you can do is to be crafty. Forget about play centres and get them artsy with different crafts that you can do together as a bonding activity.
